After waiting nine freakin' years (pun intended), we were able to see Fish's first
concert in North America. It happened at Graffiti's in Pittsburgh on Friday, July 18,
1997. Originally the first show was to be in Philadelphia on the 19th but somebody
scheduled the extra show as the first one. The Company North America and Rob Galardi
organized a "Meet and Greet" before the show.
|
About 75 people showed up to meet Fish. The organizers gave Fish a case of beer and a
cake commemorating the historic tour. By the expression on his face, we could tell he was
surprised and overwhelmed by our reception. I think he was starting to sense this would be
a great tour.

Fish took time to introduce the band. Introductions to Mickey Simmonds, Steve Vantsis,
Dave "Squeaky" Stewart, and the new guitarist "J.J." Belle were well
received.
|
Fish introduced us to Doc, the real life brother of "Brother 52".

Rob Galardi moderated a question and answer session. Fish took about 10 questions (all
with long, detailed answers).

How did I feel finally seeing Fish for the fist time in 9 years? Overwhelmed. Anxious.
Nervous. Relieved. I mean, listening to Marillion and Fish since 1983 has helped me
through some tough times - bad relationships, bad jobs, and not understanding my place in
this world. Fish's lyrics may not have solved any of those problems but they did help me
realize that my life was not as bad as I thought it was and that I had to step forward and
take charge of my life. Thanks Fish.

After questions and answers, Fish signed photos and CD covers for the group. I really
think he had no idea so many people were going to show up to meet him. Everyone was happy
for the experience.
